Hear the harmonious sounds of men’s voices at the 8th annual Festival of Praise, Sunday, Nov. 1, 4:00 p.m., Eastern Mennonite School auditorium, 801 Parkwood Drive, Harrisonburg. Various groups will sing, and then join a mass chorus led by Jay Hartzler. The offering will benefit earthquake disaster relief in L’Aquila, Italy, in cooperation with Swiss and Italian Mennonites, and supported by Virginia Mennonite Missions.

“Lift Your Glad Voices: Nurturing the Four-Part A Cappella Tradition” is the title of the Fall Lecture of Valley Brethren-Mennonite Heritage Center (CrossRoads) to be given Sunday, November 1 at 4 pm at Bridgewater Church of the Brethren. The speaker is Wendell Nisly, music teacher at Calvary Christian Academy in Mt. Clinton and widely-known Mennonite choral director. For more information call 438-1275.

EMUs Spiritual Life Week is Monday, November 2 - Friday, November 6. The speakers will be Tom and Christine Sine, members of Mustard Seed Associates, who desire to help prepare everyone from college students to mission executives get ready to serve God in our rapidly changing global neighborhood. Their goal is to help people to learn to identify the challenges of the future and to imagine new ways of responding to these challenges. For more information visit www.msainfo.org

Special guest Stefan Waliger and a local ensemble of musicians will lead the monthly Taizé worship service at Park View Mennonite Church on Wed., Nov. 4, 8:30-9:30 pm. Stefan is a contemplative musician, composer, professor, and liturgist. For the past ten years, Stefan has traveled extensively, sharing his music in Europe, the United States, and Israel/Palestine. Poetry Reading and Book Signing, Sat., Nov 7th ,7-8pm, in the Dean House (located across Water Street from Community Mennonite Church: 110 South High St.) Esther Stenson will be reading from her recently published book of poetry, Miracle Temple. The life journey of Esther Yoder Stenson, Harrisonburg, VA, extends from an Amish home in Virginia to El Salvador, China, and back to Harrisonburg, VA. Currently she teaches literature and composition at JMU and she is a member of Community Mennonite Church. “Here are poems able to draw both tears and laughter...” Refreshments will be served.
